Painting differently - Monotype Painting

At Curtin University, engaging in monotype painting has been an incredibly enjoyable and enriching experience. The unique process of creating a single, one-of-a-kind print each time allows for boundless creativity and experimentation. Every session is filled with excitement as I explore various techniques and materials, transforming simple ideas into vibrant, expressive artworks. The supportive and inspiring environment at Curtin, coupled with access to excellent facilities and knowledgeable instructors, makes the entire process even more delightful. Whether it's the thrill of pressing the plate and revealing the print or the joy of sharing and discussing our creations with fellow students, monotype painting at Curtin University is a truly captivating and fulfilling artistic journey.

Painting 1

The Stillness in Movement

The first monotype is a chiaroscuro play of light and dark, where the stark contrasts bring forth an abstract chair. Here, the chair is not just an object, but a narrative of stillness against the backdrop of university life's constant flux. It's a solitary figure in the art studio, offering a silent invitation to ponder the moments we rest and the thoughts that visit us then.

Painting 2

Gaze of the Epoch

In the second monotype, the person is etched with swirling strokes, a visage emerging from the depths of blue. This face captures a moment in time, a reflection of the student's journey—a gaze that has witnessed the vibrancy of growth and the solitude of introspection. It's a snapshot of an artist at the precipice of their future, eyes alight with the wisdom gained at Curtin University.

Painting 3

Weaving of Wills

The third piece, co-created with Taj Rollings, is a convergence of two artistic spirits—a monotype that speaks of partnership and the harmonious clash of ideas. Here, the abstract forms intertwine, suggesting a narrative of collective endeavor within the academic haven. It is a testament to the shared experience of creation, where individuality and collaboration merge to form a unified tapestry of expression.
